Carnival Shop: Spotify hacks that you need to know about

Spotify is the leading music streaming service out right now. Its got countless hours of content and millions of people use it every day to listen to their favourite artists and podcasters.

It’s more than just a listening platform as there are several things that it does that makes its users comfortable using it. This includes features such as curated playlists, discover weekly, offline mode and many more.

However, are you sure you’re getting the most out of your Spotify app? What if we told you that there are other things that the app has to offer that most people don’t know about? If you want to learn more, here’s everything you need to know:

Listen to your music offline

One of the most common misconceptions that Spotify users have about this app is that it can only be used when connected to the internet. Although almost everyone has an internet connection these days via Wifi or data, did you know that you can listen to your playlist without having to go online? That’s right! You can listen to your favourite music offline if you managed to save them beforehand.

This comes in handy if you want to listen to some music on the way home but you don’t have strong mobile reception. Not only will it save you money and battery but it will also let you listen to your favourite songs in high definition.

To do this, all you have is to tap on the three dots found on the side of the track and choose download. This tip works for both Android and Apple devices. But, take note, only those who have premium accounts can enjoy this feature.

Choose the right music quality

Just like with video resolutions, you can also adjust the quality of the sound you’re listening to in Spotify. Not many people know this but by default, the settings for your account’s sound quality is set to automatic which can be a bit random at times.

If you want to change this so that it won’t fluctuate from time to time, all you have to do is head to the settings menu which can be found below your account name.

Once you get to the settings, you’ll be given the chance to choose between low medium, high and very high. However, you do have to take into account that the higher the quality you choose, the more data it will consume so make sure to weigh your options thoroughly before deciding.

Create your playlist

Although the feature of creating your playlist has been around ever since the first iteration of the Spotify app, not a lot of people know about it, especially newcomers. They think that the only playlists that they can listen to are the ones curated by the app itself. Although these are good tunes, it’s also nice to have the ability to create your playlist.

If you’re one of these people, don’t worry because we here at Carnival Shop got your back. To create a new playlist, all you have to do is head to the Your Library section and choose ‘playlist’. Then, this is where it differs based on which device you’re using.

If you’re an Android user, tap on the + icon that appears on this page. On the other hand, Apple users would have to tap ‘Edit’ and then proceed to ‘Create.’ As for desktop users, you can easily create one by clicking on the + button found on the bottom left of the interface.

Listen without instaling the app

One of the most common mistakes that people make when they think about Spotify is that it’s only available when it’s downloaded. This is false as you can freely access the app on the web through their dedicated website,

This comes in handy when you don’t want to instal the app on your computer due to work purposes or if you’re not allowed to. Don’t worry, you won’t be missing out on features as it’s a 1 to 1 representation of the original app.

Use search modifiers

You’ve probably searched for songs on your app millions of times but are you sure you’re doing it correctly? Spotify comes equipped with search parameters that you can use to further narrow down the results making it easier for you to find the track that you’re looking for.

Available for both mobile and desktop versions, this feature requires you to specify what you’re looking for more clearly using the syntax of Modifier: Parameter. To simply put, think of modifier as the question and parameter as the answer.

For example, if you’re looking for a specific genre you can use the syntax genre: country. You can also use this if you’re looking for a specific year in the music industry. All you have to do is type year:2006 and so on.

This comes in handy when you’re searching for that song that got stuck in your head but have trouble finding it using the search bar. Try it next time and see how easy your life will be!

Use time markers

Ever wanted to let your friends listen to a specific part of a song? Now you can through the time markers integrated with the Spotify app. To do this, tap on the share button and choose the ‘Copy Spotify URL’ option.

Once you’ve copied it onto your clipboard, you can proceed to modify the link so that it will start at a certain point in the song. Al you have to do is connect a time selection at the end of the URL. The correct format for this is ‘#0.00.’ So, if you want the song to start at a certain point add ‘#2:38’ at the end of the URL.

Check your history

If you’ve been listening to random playlists enough, you’ll come across a situation where you can’t remember the name of the song. When this happens, a quick solution that you can do is to access your listening history.

This feature may be straightforward but not a lot of people know how to get there. If you want to access your history, head to the play queue where you’ll find the history tab. However, keep in mind that the history page can only record the last 50 songs that you’ve streamed and this feature is only available for desktop versions.

Play clean songs instead of explicit versions

If you’re blasting you’re music out loud and you want to filter out the profanity that comes with some songs, you can try checking if the artist has made a clean version of the track. To check this, click the album of the track that you’re listening to. If you scroll down and see a tab that says ‘more releases’ chances are, the cleaner version of the song is there.

Recover deleted playlists

One of the worst things that can happen to you while you’re using Spotify is accidentally deleting a playlist that you like. However, only a few people know that in case this unfortunate event happens, you can always recover them through the ‘Recover Playlist’ option in the account settings. Although it’s only available for desktop versions, it will be better than having to create another playlist.

Create playlists with your friends

A great thing that puts Spotify above other music streaming platforms is that it promotes socializing with your friends. Aside from being able to follow each other and send songs whenever you want, you can also create a collaborative playlist.

Instead of having you as the only person who can see and play the playlist, you and your selected friends will have access to it through this cool feature. This means that they can add songs, change the name, etc.

Making a collaborative playlist is a fun experience because you can never expect which song your friends will add to the playlist. A great way that you can use this feature is by making a playlist for a special occasion such as a party. This way you and your friends will know which songs will be playing on the playlist.

Listen to the weekly discover playlist

If you’re someone who loves to discover new music all the time, we can’t recommend listening to the weekly discover playlist enough. The A.I. works exceptionally well in this feature as to how it compiles the songs on this playlist is that it bases it on your listening habits. Trust us, you’d be surprised how accurate some of the songs in this playlist are.
